Who can benefit from this system? Anyone can benefit from the techniques and
tactics of Canadian Combato, but the system is really geared toward the
average person. Who is the average person? The average person is
someone who is looking to learn how to protect themselves and/or their families,
they are not interested in sport or competition. The average person probably
does not have several hours per week to devote to training. Success in
many other styles is based upon high skill movements, and requires a great
deal of time to develop AND maintain these skills. Let's face facts.
The average person no matter how well meaning is not going to spend 30 mins.
per day stretching their legs and other muscles, PLUS another 30 mins. of
technique practice. The average person does not want to take years to
learn a series of complex moves that are of questionable value in real life
encounters. Some of you reading this might question what I'm saying. You are probably thinking- "If you aren't going to train hard, then how do you expect to get good? How can you defeat a street attacker without training?" Well, I never said that you don't need to train. You NEED to train, but you don't need to train EXCESSIVELY. Ideally 4 training sessions per week, and 15 mins. in duration would be what I'd like to see students do. Some may do more, some may do less. HOWEVER it's important to realize this fact- The overwhelming majority of people who fight off violent attack have NO training whatsoever. They win because they are determined not to be a victim. If they can do it, imagine how much better prepared you will be to fight off attack? If you have their attitude AND have spent some time learning simple, effective techniques of survival-defense you'll be able to instantly move into action. Don't be fooled by what movies, TV, etc. have led you to believe. The real life facts clearly indicate that you don't need to be a black belt champion in order to prevail. |
