Who Am I? Some of you might be wondering who I am?
I'm fairly certain most of you have never heard of me. First let me
tell you who I'm not. I'm not an ex-streetfighter/bouncer/cop/Navy
SEAL. I'm also not a top NHB (no holds barred) fighter. I'm not a self
proclaimed "expert" of the fighting arts. Nor am I in
constant world wide demand for seminars. I'm just an average guy.
I earn my living as a Firefighter (19+ years). I've been in the martial
arts for 16+ years. Here is a list of some of the styles that
I've studied- and a few others. Some systems will remain
nameless not because of any great secrecy, but because there is no sense
giving free advertising to those that I feel are liars and cheats. I
have no reason to make outrageous claims about what I teach. Many of many
students have been successful using what I have taught them. They have very
quickly, and without harm to themselves, ended violent situations. But that
doesn't mean that what I teach is "undefeatable", nor is it a
"secret lost art". Claims like these are made for one reason- to
extract money from your pocket. I'm probably like most of you reading
this. I began training in the martial arts because I thought it would teach
me how to fight. I was wrong. It didn't teach me what I wanted to know/learn.
And so I set out to find those skills and techniques that would work. During
my search I learned many useful skills but still something was missing.
Then I learned the answer- ATTITUDE. Most of us spend all our time
learning techniques, but techniques don't win fights, ATTITUDE does!
Armed with but a handful of simple hard hitting skills and the right attitude
you will ALWAYS be a danger to any attacker foolish enough to pick you for
his next victim. All of us can recall that guy who we went to high
school with that was considered a "tough guy". We mistakenly
thought his toughness was due to fighting skill. It wasn't. I'm very certain
that this guy never took and lessons in martial arts, etc. So it wasn't skill
or technique that he had, it was attitude. He didn't hesitate, when he knew
that there was trouble he quickly went into action. While most of us would be
standing there with our hands in our pockets and looking at the ground-
hoping that the aggressor would go away. This guy went into action- furious
and determined action. This idea might sound foreign to many of you,
but understand this-techniques don't work unless you make them work!
The sudden appearance of an attacker requires you to instantly go into
action. You need to have the proper mindset to be able to do this. All your
hours and hours of training will be for nothing if you lack the mindset to
move into action. The term self-defense is actually a poor one. It
makes you think "defensively". You can't win through defense, you
need an aggressive attacking offense. So who am I? I'm just a person who feels that they have something of value to offer you. I'm an average guy, who probably like you, has a job, and a family. Who, also like you, has limited time and limited training partners. In order for our skills and techniques to be useful they must factor in all these variables. I'm very pleased with my system of Canadian Combato, but please remember-it's only a name, and no name or no system is going to save you. Only YOU can save you. |
